Vol. 397 No. 3

Written Answers. - Petrol Sales.

Enda Kenny

Question:

113 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any controls exist for the dispensing and sale of petrol from filling stations to individuals in open containers; if any insurance regulations exist to deal with accidents arising as a result; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Regulations made under the Dangerous Substances Acts, 1972 and 1979, provide that petrol shall not be transferred to a container at a retail or private petroleum store unless the container has a capacity not exceeding 25 litres and is securely closed immediately after completion of the dispensing operation so as not to allow any leakage of petrol. These regulations do not contain any provision relating to insurance.
