Vol. 397 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Driving Tests.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

15 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there is a backlog of persons awaiting driving tests; the measures he proposes to take to deal with the problem; when they will be implemented; the way in which he expects an application for a driving test to be processed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have made arrangements to expand the number of permanent driver testers from 48 to 67 to deal with current applications. I am also considering further arrangements to increase the number of tests in order to clear the backlog. I expect that the backlog will be cleared within a year.
