Vol. 398 No. 1

Written Answers. - Helicopter Overflight Regulations.

Pat Lee

Question:

237 Dr. Lee asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the regulations governing the overflight of helicopters in a metropolitan area such as Dublin, which is densely populated; and if single-engined helicopters are allowed to overfly the city of Dublin as a matter of routine.

The Air Navigation (Rules of the Air) Order, 1973 (S.I. No. 22 of 1973) requires that all helicopter flights are conducted without hazard to persons or property and at a height which would permit a helicopter, in the event of an emergency occurring, to alight without hazard to persons or property. Single engine helicopters are permitted to fly over cities, including Dublin, provided that they comply with the provisions of the aforementioned order.
