Vol. 398 No. 2

Written Answers. - AIDS Education.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

66 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the proposed programme on AIDS education for second level schools; if the schools to be involved in the pilot project have yet been selected; the number of pupils involved; the date on which the programme will start; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The pilot project on the use of a set of educational resource materials on AIDS, developed by the Departments of Education and Health, has already been implemented and completed in 20 post-primary schools involving about 1,000 pupils.

The monitoring and evaluation of the pilot programme is at present being undertaken together with a revision of the resource materials in the light of the experience gained from the programme, the views of those involved in it and the views of other interested parties.

When this process has been completed it is the intention to make the materials available to post-primary schools generally for the next school year.
