Vol. 398 No. 4

Written Answers. - Pension Payment.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

146 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education when a decision will be made regarding the payment of a pension to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The person in question is not entitled to a pension under a teachers' superannuation scheme administered by my Department as she is not a serving teacher and was not eligible for a pension when she ceased to be a national school teacher in 1962.

It is understood that she is employed in teaching service abroad and is approaching retirement age. Any question of reckoning service as a national school teacher for the purposes of the award of a pension by another superannuation authority would be a matter for that authority in the first instance. There is no arrangement at present for reciprocal recognition of service between the schemes administered by my Department and her current employer.
