Vol. 398 No. 5

Written Answers. - Irish Embassy In Teheran.

Austin Deasy

Question:

29 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if, in view of the moderate attitudes of the Iranian Government and our increased trade relations, he will establish an embassy to replace the Consulate in Teheran; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ireland has a resident embassy in Teheran, headed by a Chargé d'Affaires, at first secretary level. The embassy was established in 1976. Arrangements are in hands to strengthen the embassy's staffing during the current year.
