Vol. 398 No. 10

Written Answers. - Maternity Hospitals Security Arrangements.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

194 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health if he has any plans to introduce electronic baby tagging in Irish maternity hospitals to give greater security in hospitals; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The question of security measures in maternity hospitals is a matter in the first instance for the individual hospital or health board concerned. I would like to assure the Deputy that the question of security arrangements at maternity hospitals is monitored by my Department in consultation with the agencies concerned and I am satisfied that the level of security in these units is subject to continuous appraisal by the authorities concerned.
