Vol. 398 No. 10

Written Answers. - Movement of Infected Herds.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

104 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his Department has a policy in relation to infected herds being moved to rented lands which are surrounded by TB free herds on all sides; if regulations in this regard are in operation in an effort to combat the spread of TB; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am advised by the director of ERAD that the introduction of new stringent conditions governing animals from infected herds being moved to additional rented lands is under consideration. These will include satisfactory fencing and independent water supply. In addition it is proposed that only those animals which have passed a test immediately before movement will be allowed to move to the additional rented land and that farmers contiguous to the rented land would be informed of the transfer.
