Question:

76 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for the Environment the total number of applicants who sat for driving tests during 1989; the number of these applicants who were undergoing a test for the first time; the number who were undergoing a test for the second time; the total number of applicants who passed their test; and the total number of second time applicants who passed their test.

Sixty eight thousand five hundred applicants for a driving test were tested during 1989. Information as to the proportion of such applicants being tested for the first or second time and their respective pass rates is not available. The estimated percentage of applicants who passed the test in 1989 was 53 per cent.
