Vol. 399 No. 3

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Phil Hogan

Question:

34 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he considers Kilkenny city to be a suitable location for an office of his Department under the decentralisation programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the Government's decentralisation programme my Department have already transferred some 300 staff to Sligo and preparations are well advanced to transfer a further 190 to Letter-kenny later this year and early in 1991. The Government have decided to expand the decentralisation programme to include five further towns and cities, including Kilkenny. The feasibility of moving sections of Departments as part of the expanded programme is at present under examination.
