I propose to take Questions Nos. 35, 44, 51, 55 and 78 together.
On 1 May 1990, I announced details of my proposals to extend the designated areas scheme for urban renewal. The new areas to be included in the scheme are additional inner city areas in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford and parts of Ballina, Bray, Carlow, Clonmel, Drogheda, Ennis, Longford and Portlaoise.
I am aware of the case made for designation of many other centres and I have no doubt that these centres including those mentioned by the Deputies could benefit from designation under the scheme. However, in order to maximise the impact of the scheme, designation must be restricted.
I have no proposals to designate any further areas.
