Vol. 399 No. 7

Written Answers. - Verolme Dockyard Sale.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Question:

60 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Finance the up to date position regarding Verolme Dockyard in Cork; if a Norwegian company is still interested in acquiring Verolme; if he has made any contact with this company; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Every effort is being made by the receiver of Verolme Cork Dockyard (VCD) to have the yard reopened on a viable commercial basis for shipbuilding and shiprepair purposes. My Department along with other Departments and State agencies are actively involved in this process. Several Norwegian companies have shown interest in the yard, including one company which has come forward very recently. My Department along with the other Departments/agencies involved have had direct contact with the various interested parties, including the Norwegian companies.
