Vol. 399 No. 8

Written Answers. - Physically Handicapped School.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

92 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Education if provision will be made to keep St. Patrick's Hospital national school, Merlin Park, Galway open, as this school caters for hospital children and three other children who are physically handicapped and as it is the only school of its type in Galway.

Because the number of children enrolled in St. Patrick's Hospital national school has been below the minimum required for the retention of a teacher for some time, sanction for the funding and recognition of the school may not be continued beyond 31 December 1990. My Department's inspectorate are currently engaged in identifying suitable alternative arrangements to meet the educational needs of the three children who are attending the school on a regular basis.
