Vol. 399 No. 10

Written Answers. - Dublin Transportation Centre Proposal.

Tomás MacGiolla

Question:

24 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he has had, or plans to have, discussions with CIE regarding a possible location for the proposed Dublin Transport Centre, in view of the decision of Dublin City Council to formally include a note in its own development plan, that the Temple Bar, Dublin 2, area was not suitable for such a centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The ending or at least significant curtailment of bus parking on city centre streets which a transportation centre would permit would have some traffic management and environmental benefits.

It is a matter for CIE, however, to identify possible locations for a transportation centre and to develop proposals for submission to me, including detailed costs and benefits etc. I will examine any such proposals on their merits.
