Vol. 399 No. 10

Written Answers. - Airport Noise Pollution.

Alan Shatter

Question:

39 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if noise pollution levels at Irish airports are regularly monitored; if so, the results; if such levels are in keeping with acceptable EC standards; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Aircraft noise in the vicinity of airports is controlled by applying internationally agreed noise certification and operational standards for aircraft and, where appropriate, by the additional use of noise abatement procedures.

The monitoring of the levels of aircraft noise in areas adjacent to airports is not, as yet, used as a feature of noise control. However, if complaints are received and it is established that the procedures have not been adhered to, the matter is pursued with the airline concerned.
