Vol. 399 No. 10

Written Answers. - Marine and Port Structure.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

85 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Marine if he has any plans to provide for a co-ordinated ports policy for the Dublin region, including Drogheda, County Louth, and Arklow, County Wicklow, in view of the strategic importance of port access and the dependency of exports upon an efficient marine and port structure; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I agree wholeheartedly with the Deputy's comments about the strategic importance of port access and the dependency of exports upon an efficient marine and port structure, and for this reason I will shortly be announcing the establishment of a group to review the policy and legislation governing commercial harbours, including those mentioned by the Deputy, with a view to putting in place a new policy in the area, and updating the legislation.
