Air Corps Dauphin helicopters have been conducting operational training missions from the deck of LE Eithne on an ongoing basis since October 1986. However, since the Dauphins were acquired it has been necessary to concentrate on training helicopter crews so as to attain the highest possible level of skill and expertise in search and rescue operations in the Atlantic night environment. Because of this requirement, it has not yet been possible to locate a Dauphin on LE Eithne on a permanent basis.
