Vol. 400 No. 2

Written Answers. - Fish Processing.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

30 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for the Marine if he has had any plans to have any discussions with the owners or management of a company (details supplied) in County Cork regarding their failure to establish a fish processing facility in the area; if he is satisfied that the plant is not being used simply to facilitate the registration in Ireland of Spanish fishing boats; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The position with regard to which the Deputy refers is that it has been the subject of court proceedings and rulings and on the basis of these is currently under examination by the Department in consultation with the Attorney General's Office. I am advised that in view of the nature of this case and the related legal proceedings, it would not be appropriate to comment on it further at this time.
