Vol. 400 No. 2

Written Answers. - Mornington (Meath) Harbour Development.

Michael Bell

Question:

50 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Marine the reason his Department have refused to take action following communication from Drogheda Harbour Commissioners regarding illegal reclamation of foreshore at Mornington, County Meath; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that his Department were first notified of this illegal development in 1983; if he will take steps so that the lease of the area will be granted to Drogheda Harbour Commissioners so that they can ensure proper control; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Drogheda Harbour Commissioners have been in touch with my Department in connection with this case. The matter is being investigated with a view to establishing whether there have been any breaches of the Foreshore Act, 1933. I will consider what legal remedies are available to counteract any illegal development before making a decision in relation to the grant of a lease to the harbour commissioners. My Department will be in touch with the harbour commissioners about the matter.
