Vol. 400 No. 9

Written Answers. - Moneypoint Power Station.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

149 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Energy if he has received any reports or complaints that ash is being blown up the stack of Moneypoint Power Station, County Clare, and is being blown over a wide area.

The only incident I am aware of was in respect of a minor problem with the operation of the grit arrester equipment on one of the three boilers at the station. Twelve hoppers out of a total of 120, which collect the ash from the grit arrester systems, had become clogged. This occurred at the end of last year and was quickly rectified.

I understand that the ash emissions remained within the limits set by the local authority at all times.
