Vol. 401 No. 1

Written Answers. - Death Grant.

Joe Sherlock

Question:

35 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Social Welfare the last occasion on which the death grant, payable to the dependants of insured workers, was last increased; if, in view of the huge increase in funeral costs, he will increase the grant to a more realistic level; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The death grant was increased to its present level in 1982. An increase in the amount of the grant could have considerable cost implications and any proposal to that effect could only be considered in a budgetary context.
