Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Increase in Cablelink Charges.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

208 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Communications the reason the recent increases in Cablelink charges, with effect from 1 May 1990, are so high; if he will outline the rationale for this increase in view of the fact that inflation is only at 3 per cent; and the way in which such an increase can be justified.

This increase took into account the rate of inflation from the date of the company's last increase, July 1988, together with the fact that Cablelink has made substantial investment in a primary trunk network in the Dublin area which is a new and necessary development and also the fact that the company are now required to pay rates on virtually the entire cable system.
