Vol. 402 No. 2

Written Answers. - Feta Cheese Production.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

57 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the possibilities, if any, for the production and export of feta cheese in this country; whether any investigation has been undertaken into the possibilities of such a market and their locations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Feta cheese was manufactured in Ireland, mainly for Middle Eastern markets, during the mid-1980s but is not currently being produced. The recommencement of its manufacture would be a commercial decision for the industry itself.
