Vol. 402 No. 3

Written Answers. - Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

110 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice the number of cases at 30 September 1990, with the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal, of persons who have been awarded money but have not yet been paid; the total amount of money due to be paid to such persons; the average time between the date of the award and payment by the Tribunal; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal that, at 30 September 1990, there were 545 cases in which offers of awards made by the tribunal had been accepted by the applicants and had not been paid. The total value of these awards was £4,554,672. In the period January to September 1990, 164 awards to a total value of £1,554,744, were paid by the tribunal.

In the case of recently-paid awards, the delay from date of acceptance to date of payment has been 11 months.
