Vol. 402 No. 5

Written Answers. - Wexford Redundancies and Redeployment.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

65 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate (a) the number of redundancies expected in the Customs and Excise service at Rosslare Harbour, County Wexford, as a result of the introduction of computerisation in early 1991 and (b) whether redeployment within the Wexford area will be offered to persons losing their employment on the introduction of computerisation.

The extent of redundancies, if any, that will arise in all areas of the Customs and Excise service, including Rosslare, due to the introduction of computerisation will not become clear for some time after the implementation of the automatic entry processing system. At that later stage, the employment implication, including the issue of redeployment, will be determined in full consultation with the trade unions who represent the Customs and Excise staff.
