Vol. 403 No. 1

Written Answers. - ERAD Proposals.

Donal Carey

Question:

124 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has had discussions with the board of ERAD regarding their proposals to regionalise counties which have a high bovine disease incidence rate; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the proposed restriction would give rise to disastrous results for the store trade in County Clare since the farmers there have invested most towards the improvement of the suckler herd, with only 20 per cent of calves born being finished there; and if he will make a statement on his proposals to avoid this serious situation.

I have not received any proposals from the board of ERAD on the matters referred to. I understand from the director of ERAD that the board will shortly be considering the 1991 eradication programme and that the programme will be submitted to me in due course.
