Vol. 403 No. 1

Written Answers. - Broadcasting Standards Council.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

25 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Communications if he has any plans to establish a Broadcasting Standards Council.

I am satisfied that the mechanisms which are already in place in regard to broadcasts originating in Ireland, coupled with the safeguards in both the EC Directive on Broadcasting Activities and the Council of Europe Convention on Transfrontier Television in relation to broadcasts originating from countries who are parties to those agreements, obviate the need for a broadcasting standards council.
