Vol. 403 No. 1

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Gratuity Rates.

Michael Bell

Question:

78 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline in respect of the first and second line reserves (a) the number by rank paid the full and reduced rates of gratuity in 1989 to 1990, to 2 November and (b) this number as a percentage of their respective establishments.

In 1989 the full rates of gratuities were paid to 131 officers and 278 other ranks of the first line reserve and to 642 officers and 6,991 other ranks of An Forsa Cosanta Aitiuil and An Slua Muirí. The reduced rates of gratuities were paid to 19 Officers and 28 other ranks of the first line reserve.

There is no establishment for the first line reserve. The numbers of FCA and Slua Muirí officers and other ranks that were paid gratuities in 1989 represent 59 per cent and 32 per cent respectively of establishments as at 31 December, 1989.

It has not been possible in the time available to compile the information required for 1990. However, when this information becomes available I will arrange to have it forwarded to the Deputy.
