Investigations are taking place at present to establish the eligibility of the person named or his son for a compensatory allowance under the 1989 scheme of compensatory allowances in respect of forestry.

At this stage it is not possible to state whether such an allowance can be paid to either person.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

85 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the grave difficulties being experienced by a person (details supplied) in County Louth in his application for financial assistance under the greenhouse grant scheme by reason of his Department's refusal to accept anything less than a three year lease on the property when this person can only obtain a two year nine month lease from the lessor involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that it is a condition for eligibility to avail of grants under the greenhouse grants scheme that applicants must own or lease the property on which the investments are made. In the case of leased land the lease must be for a minimum period of three years.

There are no proposals to change this condition of the scheme.
