Vol. 403 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cork Health Services Development.

Joe Sherlock

Question:

15 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Health when their review body set up earlier this year for the purpose of co-ordinating health services in Cork city and county is expected to complete its report; if he intends to publish the report; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A working group representative of the Department, the Southern Health Board and the voluntary hospitals in Cork has been established to draw up a plan for the development of hospital services in Cork city and county for the next decade. The function of the working group will be to seek a consensus on the role of acute hospitals and on the priorities for development.

I attach great importance to the work of this group and I would be concerned that the group should have whatever time is necessary to fully consider all the issues involved. Notwithstanding this I would hope that the group will have completed its work by mid-1991.
