Vol. 403 No. 4

Written Answers. - Mullingar (Westmeath) Housing Project.

Paul McGrath

Question:

189 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the tender price for 24 houses at Grange, Mullingar, County Westmeath, was £889,000; in view of the fact that his allocation for this project was £409,000, the proposals he has to make up the shortfall; when he will authorise the signing of the contract; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Westmeath County Council were notified on 23 February 1990 of a capital allocation of £409,000 for their 1990 local authority housing construction programme. This is adequate to enable the council to commence the housing scheme at Grange Lawns, Mullingar and to finance costs arising thereon in 1990. The acceptance of the tender of £746,733 for this scheme was recently approved by my Department. The further expenditure which will arise on this scheme in 1991 will be taken into account in determining the capital allocation to this council for that year.
