Vol. 403 No. 4

Written Answers. - Fire Services Legislation.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

195 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment if he has satisfied himself that every local authority has adequate staff and resources to inspect and monitor all privately rented accommodation and all buildings to which the public has access from the perspective of fire and safety; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is primarily a matter for each individual local authority concerned to ensure that the staff and resources required are available to discharge their responsibilities in respect of fire safety under the Fire Services Act, 1981. In so far as my sanction may be required for certain staffing proposals by local authorities, there are no specific proposals relating to officers in the fire service awaiting sanction.
