Pat Rabbitte

Question:

40 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education (1) when legislation on boards of management and principals of regional technical colleges, referred to in her reply to Parliamentary Question No. 239 of 6 March 1990, will be introduced, (2) when a principal/president for Tallaght regional technical college will be appointed and (3) the names of those at present acting as a board of Tallaght regional technical college and the local interest groups represented on this body.

Seán Barrett

Question:

287 Mr. S. Barrett asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to introduce the promised new legislation for the Dublin Institute of Technology.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 40 and 287 together. The heads of the Bills relating to the regional technical colleges and the Dublin Institute of Technology have been sent to the Attorney General's Office for drafting. Subject to the completion of the necessary procedures and the availability of Dáil time I would hope to bring the draft legislation before the Dáil in the next session.

My Department have agreed that County Dublin Vocational Education Committee may proceed with arrangements for the appointment of a principal for Tallaght regional technical college. It is planned to advertise the post in the new year.

The appointment of a board of management for the regional technical college is the responsibility of County Dublin Vocational Education Committee. It is intended that the board will be representative of relevant interests in the region to be served by the college. Pending the formal appointment of a board of management the relevant decisions are being made by the County Dublin Vocational Education Committee.
