Vol. 403 No. 4

Written Answers. - Carysfort College (Dublin) Accounts.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

82 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education the investigation which is being held into apparent discrepancy of approximately £800,000 in the accounts furnished by Carysfort College, Blackrock, County Dublin, to her Department which led to the payment of a higher level grant than the college should have been entitled; if she intends to take any steps to recover any of the public funds involved; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

James C. Tunney

Question:

245 Mr. Tunney asked the Minister for Education if she will make a statement on the recent reports and comments on specific financial matters relating to Carysfort College, Blackrock, County Dublin.

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 82 and 245 together. The question of any discrepancies between the financial details furnished by the Carysfort College of Education, when seeking State grants, and accounts subsequently furnished by the college authorities — raised in the recently published report of the Comptroller and Auditor General — is being examined by my Department in conjunction with the manager of the college.

I wish to assure the Deputies that every effort will be made to reach a satisfactory resolution of the issues riased.
