Vol. 403 No. 5

Competition in Food Processing Bill, 1990: First Stage.

I move:

That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to amend the Restrictive Practices (Amendment) Act, 1987, so as to make provision for competition in food processing.

Is this Bill opposed?

I am afraid Deputy Bruton is bringing his party into ridicule by bringing up this matter at this stage without giving us any advance notice of it or any indication of what is in the Bill. However, out of excess of courtesy on this side of the House we are prepared not to object despite the very short notice we have been given.

Question put and agreed to.

Since this is a Private Members' Bill, Second Stage must, under Standing Orders, be taken in Private Members' time.
