Vol. 403 No. 5

Written Answers. - Beaumont (Dublin) Hospital.

Michael Noonan

Question:

79 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to (a) a proposal to open a community pharmacy at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9 in the hospital concourse, (b) a proposal that the chief pharmicist at the hospital should be the overall manager of this facility and (c) the opposition of the Irish Pharmaceutical Union to this proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that the Beaumont Hospital Board are considering opening a retail pharmacy as part of their development plan for services and facilities in the main concourse of the hospital.

I further understand that the hospital board do not envisage that the chief pharmacist would be overall manager of this proposed facility.

I am aware that representations have been made to the hospital regarding the proposed facility and these are currently being considered by the board.

However, no final proposal in these matters has been submitted to my Department to date.
