Written Answers. - Family Planning Services.

Ivan Yates

Question:

81 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Health the total amount of funding made available this year for family planning services through his Department including an itemised breakdown as to which, if any, clinics have received funding; if he will give specific consideration to a particular family planning clinic (details supplied) which is providing a wide range of services in terms of women's health needs; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The estimated total amount of funding being made available by my Department and by health boards to clinics/ organisations involved in family planning services in respect of services provided during 1990 is £121,925 made up as follows:

£

Tralee Family Planning Women's Health Clinic Ltd.

15,000

Family Planning and Women's Health Clinic, Newcastlewest

2,000

Limerick Family Planning Clinic Ltd

4,000

Letterkenny Women's Centre Co. Ltd.

7,600

Catholic Marriage Advisory Council

72,325*

Family Life Centre, Cork

500

National Association of the Ovulation Method in Ireland (NAOMI)

20,500

* It is not possible to identify the family planning element of this expenditure which also covers family/marriage counselling.
Galway Family Planning Association Ltd., as Medicare Services, operate a sexually transmitted diseases clinic on an agency basis on behalf of the Western Health Board which recoups the full cost involved on receipt of certified monthly accounts. The cost of the service to date in 1990 is £10,000.
As regards grant-aiding Medicare Services for family planning services, my Department, following correspondence with the Western Health Board, recently advised Medicare Services to make formal application to the board. It is understood from the board that an application has not since been received.
