Vol. 403 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grant-Aiding Diploma Studies.

Edward Nealon

Question:

92 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education if there is any way by which a person, at present doing a national diploma in business studies in a regional technical college, can be grant-aided to continue with a degree course in business studies, even though he did not get the necessary honours required for university in the leaving certificate; and if she will make a statement outlining the conditions for grant aiding such a continuation of diploma studies.

The vocational education committee scheme scholarship and the higher education grants scheme contain provisions under which a holder may, subject to certain conditions, continue to hold a scholarship or grant while proceeding from national diploma to degree level courses.

In order to be eligible for a grant or scholarship a candidate must, however, be eligible for such an award on the basis of the means and academic attainments laid down in the schemes.
