Vol. 403 No. 6

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy McGahon — the reason permission was refused to a prisoner in Portlaoise Prison to attend his mother's funeral; (2) Deputy Fennell — the need for action in providing information for the medical profession on the likely consequences for daughters whose mothers were prescribed DES (Stilboestrol) in line with the European Resolution of May 1989; (3) Deputy Owen — the provision of education facilities for the many children of the travelling community about to be settled before Christmas 1990 in Mulhuddart, County Dublin; (4) Deputy Therese Ahearn — the deplorable conditions under which the Garda are operating at Carrick-on-Suir Garda station; (5) Deputy Gilmore — the Government plans to reduce the long waiting lists for local authority housing; (6) Deputy McCartan — the circumstances surrounding the deferral of an ear operation at Beaumont Hospital for a prisoner on the 4 October 1990; (7) Deputy Garland — the proposed privatisation of the B & I Line; (8) An Teachta Donnchadh MacFhionnlaoich — an easpa áiseanna corpoideachais agus halla spóirt i bpobal scoil Ghaoth Dobhair; and (9) Deputy McGrath — the reason there is an unprecedented delay in the payment of European Social Fund grants to students in the Dublin Vocational Education Committee colleges; and as a result of this non-payment, students are today staging a walk-out from their studies.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies: (1) Deputy Gilmore, (2) Deputy Fennell and (3) Deputy Owen.
