Vol. 403 No. 8

Written Answers. - Adjustment of Tax Bands.

Michael Noonan

Question:

87 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Finance the estimated cost to the Exchequer in 1991 of adjusting income tax bands and personal allowances to allow for inflation.

It is estimated that each 1 per cent adjustment in income tax bands and personal allowances to allow for inflation would cost approximately £9.3 million in 1991 and £15.5 million in a full year. These figures are provisional and are likely to be revised.
