Vol. 403 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tax Liability.

Tony Gregory

Question:

94 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the concern of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 who is on a widow's pension and retirement pension, he will arrange to have a thorough check made of the tax deducted from her during 1988, 1989 and 1990, to examine if any overpayment was made.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer's liability to tax for the years 1987-88, 1988-89 and 1989-90 inclusive were reviewed by the inspector of taxes on 22 August 1990 and that balancing statements were issued to the taxpayer on 4 September 1990.

As requested by the Deputy, further reviews of the taxpayer's liability were carried out by the inspector on 7 December 1990 and this review did not reveal an overpayment of tax. A copy of the reviews for the years in question will be sent to the taxpayer shortly.
