Vol. 403 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Apprenticeships.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

10 Mr. McCormack asked the Taoiseach the reason trainee soldiers who are doing apprenticeship courses in the Army receive only the apprenticeship course pay while they have to do regular Army training also; and if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the apprenticeship pay is considerably less than the Army training pay.

The rates of pay of apprentices in the Permanent Defence Force are those which were recommended by the Gleeson Commission. The recommendations of the commission took into account the fact that apprentices are liable for some military duties.
