Vol. 403 No. 8

Written Answers. - Payment to Doctors.

Bernard Allen

Question:

170 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on reports (details supplied) which state that by mid-December the General Medical Services Payments Board will have only a small percentage of the £3 million they require to pay doctors their Christmas cheques; and if he proposes to introduce a Supplementary Estimate in order to ensure that moneys are available to fund the board.

I will be introducing a Supplementary Estimate before the Christmas recess which will, among other items, provide for additional funding to meet the extra costs in 1990 of the General Medical Services. I am satisfied that the provision in that Estimate of additional funds will be adequate to meet payments this year.
