Vol. 403 No. 8

Written Answers. - Consultants' Fees.

Ivan Yates

Question:

173 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to a general public dissatisfaction with what is perceived to be overcharging by hospital-based consultants for visitations, consultations and treatments; if he has any proposals, in conjunction with the professions in question, to introduce a standard scale of fees; if he will outline same at present; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have no function in regulating fees charged by medical consultants to their private patients.

The level of fees charged by medical consultants to their private patients is a matter between the consultants and the individual patients concerned.
