Question:190 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education the number of students currently attending universities in Ireland who are not in receipt of grant assistance from her Department; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

It is estimated that over a third of students in universities are in receipt of higher education grants. Accordingly, about 24,000 students are not in receipt of such grants.
The current cost of the higher education grants scheme is £27.2 million.
