Vol. 403 No. 8

Written Answers. - Grants to Mature Students.

Michael Noonan

Question:

209 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that certain mature students attending Thomond College, County Limerick, (details supplied) are being refused higher education grants in anomalous circumstances; if she will re-examine their applications with a view to awarding them higher education grants; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

With regard to the seven students mentioned in the question, five did not meet the academic requirements of the Thomond College grants scheme, one did not qualify on income grounds under the scheme and no application for a grant was received from the remaining student.

There were no anomalous circumstances in the cases of the students from whom applications were received.
