101 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Social Welfare (a) the funds, (b) the resources and (c) the ideas or other supports he plans to contribute towards the effort of Dublin as the European Community cultural capital for 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
My Department does not have any direct responsibility in relation to cultural matters. There are, however, a number of ways in which, through our service to the public and support for voluntary organisations we support cultural activities in the social services area. Through the scheme of grants for voluntary organisations in the social service area, we provide support for a number of community based voluntary initiatives which involve local communities in cultural activities.
The improvement and upgrading of social welfare offices in Dublin will also contribute towards improving the environment for social welfare clients.
