254 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will indicate the expenditure in 1990 in his Department on advertising and public relations including advertising bulletins, newsletters, public information and leaflets; and the amount which was paid to external or non-public service consultants.

Minister for Social Welfare (Dr. Woods)

A total amount of £599,702 was spent by my Department in 1990 on advertising, public relations and a wide variety of leaflets, booklets and other publications relating to the Department's schemes and publicity. Of the total sum, £344,674 was paid to external advertising, design and public relations agencies.
