Vol. 404 No. 4

Written Answers. - Civil Legal Aid Scheme.

Dick Spring

Question:

273 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Justice the number of solicitors employed by the civil legal aid scheme on 1 January 1988, 1 January 1989, 1 January 1990 and 1 January 1991.

I have no function under the civil legal aid scheme with regard to the staffing levels in particular law centres administered by the Legal Aid Board. That is a matter which is entirely for the board to consider.

Dick Spring

Question:

274 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Justice if he intends to appoint an additional solicitor to the Civil Legal Aid office in Tralee, County Kerry to cope with the increased volume of work in County Kerry, Limerick West and North Clare.

The number of solicitors employed by the Legal Aid Board on 1 January for each of the years 1988 to 1991 is 30, 30, 29 and 33 respectively.

The board's full complement of solicitors is 35 and steps are being taken to recruit the two further solicitors.
