Vol. 404 No. 4

Written Answers. - Appointment of School Secretaries.

Mervyn Taylor

Question:

361 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Education if approval can be given for two secretaries for St. Mark's national schools, Springfield, Tallaght, Dublin 24 having regard to the fact that there are two large schools located in this campus with a total enrolment of some 1,800 children; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

When the clerk-typist posts in these two schools fell vacant they were subject to the embargo on the replacement of such staff. I am not, therefore, in a position to approve the appointment of clerk-typists to these schools under the existing schemes.

I should mention that, under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress, a phased programme will commence in 1992 to expand the provision for clerical services to national schools with 100 pupils upwards.
